LTKMSBK Track Lighting Kit | Lithonia Lighting
The Lithonia Lighting LTKMSBK track lighting kit transforms any space with flexible, directional illumination that adapts to your changing needs. Our track kit arrives complete with everything required for a professional installation — a 4-foot linear track section, three adjustable heads, mounting hardware, and connectors.

The LTKMSBK track is manufactured from heavy-gauge steel with a baked powder-coat finish that resists scratching and corrosion in high-traffic areas. Unlike plastic extrusions found in economy kits, our steel construction maintains electrical contact integrity over thousands of head adjustments.

Installation & Mounting Options
We ship the LTKMSBK with both direct-ceiling and junction-box mounting hardware so you can install it over existing electrical boxes or as a new fixture location. The floating canopy adjusts to cover round or octagonal boxes up to 4 inches in diameter, concealing wiring connections for a finished appearance.
The track mounts parallel to the ceiling via two support brackets spaced 32 inches apart, distributing weight evenly across the span. Each bracket fastens with #8 screws into ceiling joists or toggle anchors in drywall, supporting the combined weight of the track, heads, and installed bulbs. The electrical feed enters through the canopy at either end of the track, allowing you to position the kit to suit your room layout without relocating junction boxes.

Bulb Compatibility & Light Output
The LTKMSBK accepts any medium-base (E26) bulb up to 50 watts per socket, giving you flexibility to choose LED, CFL, halogen, or incandescent sources based on your lighting goals. We recommend 800-lumen LED bulbs in 2700K or 3000K color temperature for general ambient lighting in living spaces.
For accent lighting or art illumination, narrow-beam PAR20 or BR20 LED bulbs concentrate light into focused pools without spill. Each head’s reflector is anodized aluminum with a high-reflectance white interior that maximizes bulb output — a 12-watt LED bulb produces the equivalent throw of a 75-watt incandescent in our heads. The open-back design allows passive heat dissipation, extending LED bulb lifespan beyond the typical 25,000-hour rating.

Common Questions About the LTKMSBK Track Kit
The LTKMSBK is designed for horizontal ceiling mounting only. The track must remain level to ensure proper electrical contact between the heads and internal conductor rails.
For sloped or vaulted ceilings, the track heads can still be angled downward using their 90-degree tilt adjustment once the track itself is mounted horizontally. If your ceiling has a significant slope, you may need to use shims or a slope adapter kit to create a level mounting surface for the track.
Each Lithonia Lighting LTKMSBK track head is rated to support the weight of standard medium-base bulbs — typically 2 to 6 ounces for LED and CFL types. The heads are not designed to support decorative shades or glass fixtures that weigh more than 8 ounces.
If you need to hang heavier pendant shades, our pendant adapter accessory distributes weight through a separate support cable rather than relying on the track head’s friction grip alone.
The LTKMSBK track itself is compatible with dimmer switches when paired with dimmable bulbs. You must install a wall dimmer rated for the total wattage of all bulbs combined — a standard 600W incandescent dimmer will work, but we recommend an LED-rated dimmer for flicker-free performance with modern LED bulbs.
Each bulb you install must carry a ‘dimmable’ designation on its packaging. Non-dimmable LED and CFL bulbs will flicker or fail to dim properly even with a compatible switch.
We do not recommend cutting the LTKMSBK track section. The internal conductor rails are precisely positioned during manufacturing and cutting can expose sharp edges, compromise insulation, or misalign the electrical contacts.
If you need a shorter track, Lithonia offers 2-foot and 3-foot sections through our catalog. You can also position the 4-foot section to suit your space and leave unused track length at the end — track heads can be placed anywhere along the rail, so you’re not obligated to use the full span.
The LTKMSBK and LTKSTBF are functionally identical — both include a 4-foot track, three adjustable heads, and mounting hardware. The only difference is finish: the LTKMSBK has a black powder coat while the LTKSTBF features a brushed nickel finish.
Both kits use the same internal conductor design and accept the same bulbs and accessories. Your choice comes down to which finish complements your room’s décor and existing hardware.
The LTKMSBK can be installed by a homeowner with basic electrical knowledge and comfort working with live wiring. You’ll need to shut off power at the breaker, connect three wires (hot, neutral, ground) using the included wire nuts, and mount the track to ceiling joists or anchors.
If you’re unfamiliar with electrical work or your local code requires licensed installation, hire a professional. Most electricians can complete the installation in under an hour. The kit includes detailed instructions with wiring diagrams for both new and existing junction box installations.
The LTKMSBK carries a UL damp-location rating, which allows installation in covered outdoor areas where the fixture is protected from direct rain exposure — covered porches, breezeways, and roof overhangs qualify.
The kit is not rated for wet locations where it would be exposed to rain, snow, or direct water spray. For fully exposed outdoor installations, you’ll need a track lighting system with a wet-location rating and sealed conductor rails.
